In Something to Share?, Ghosts at Button House continue their lively antics, from celebrating birthdays to uncovering hidden secrets, proving the afterlife is never boring, writes GEMMA JOHNSON
Did you know that ghosts still celebrate their birthdays? Yes, they do! And I can’t blame them; the afterlife must get pretty boring sometimes. It’s Kitty’s birthday, and now Mike is eager to feel like part of the ‘ghost gang’.
Button House has become the go-to venue for several groups while repairs are underway at the community centre. The ghosts are loving it and have been actively participating in the groups – and, of course, gossiping about them afterwards. Mary, however, is worried that too much talking can lead to bad things. Understandable, given that talk led to the witch trials and the execution of hundreds of innocent people.
Lucy is once again a topic of discussion, prompting Alison to ask Kitty about her sister. This is quickly shut down by the ghosts. Mary declares, “She was a horrible wench,” while Robin adds, “A real cow”. The ghosts are not eager to encourage Kitty to talk about her sister, recalling the dramatic incident with Bunty Bear – a situation they do not want to repeat!
Mike, meanwhile, is exploring ways to join the ghost gang with Alison. His methods range from contemplating jumping out of a window to watching dubious YouTube channels, and even downing a homemade concoction he found on the internet. None of these approaches work, but they do result in some comical scenes that are very much appreciated.
Despite the ghosts’ pleas, Alison persists in asking Kitty about her relationship with her sister. As the story unfolds, we quickly learn that Kitty’s sister was indeed a ‘horrible wench’ – the worst kind, who is nice to your face but stabs you in the back (not literally, of course; we know that’s not how Kitty died).
A therapy group session begins, with Alison seemingly taking the lead to get the ghosts to open up about their pasts. We find out that Pat was a thief, Mary has disturbing dreams, Julian was a raging alcoholic (but we might have guessed that), and the Captain is about to share something deeply personal when… art class arrives.
Takeaway lessons from this episode:
