Ghosts Series 4 Episode 6:  Not Again

We find ourselves at the end of another series of Ghosts.

I found episode 5 of this series a little lacklustre, however, normal service resumed with this episode which is number 6 in my Top 10 episodes of Ghosts.

Why I hear you ask?  I have three words: stuffed bear and eggs.

I have admired Alison and Mikes determination to make The Gatehouse work as a bed and breakfast.

The idea of sharing your home space with strangers, and having to run around after them, is not for me but each to their own.

They have been muddling along and there seems to be some better days on the horizon but can they see eye to eye on how to reach it?

Well, no purely because they have very different ideas as to how to approach improving the décor of The Gatehouse.

In every couple, there is usually a thrifty one which here is Alison, and one that doesn’t know the word budget which here is Mike.

Beyond the money, it becomes about personal taste as they both battle with their interior design ideas.

Now before I go into this, please note that I am accepting of all dietary requirements and lifestyles, no judgment.

However, I also make no apologies for finding the discussions on vegans, between Pat, Thomas and Alison, hilarious.

Veganism has become increasingly popular in modern times, not during the times of Pat and Thomas which is what makes Alison’s attempt at educating them so humorous.

Being a proud Northerner myself, just like Pat, I completely appreciate a good old meal of egg and chips.

The idea of not being able to have eggs is quite frankly horrifying (as I said, no judgment just my personal thoughts, each to their own).

Mike arrives at Button House with a bear, a stuffed bear which Alison and Mike keep moving around, due to the ongoing interior design dispute.

Robin interprets this as the fact that the bear is really a ghost bear and it is following him around to try to get revenge – it turns out Robin had a bad encounter with a bear when he was alive.

What… what’s this?… the sunlight shining on the bear’s eyes is creating smoke?

Nevermind, Alison spots it and takes action.  Phew! That was close, we wouldn’t want a fire to happen.

Throughout this episode there are hints that a potential disaster is about to happen in Button House and it is a classic example of misdirection.

For there is a fire but it is not at Button House, nor was it caused by the stuffed bear.

I won’t give too much away, it is a great example of smoke (pardon the pun) and mirror writing within the script.

Good luck explaining this one to the insurance company Mike.

This was a strong episode to finish series 4 with, it left the viewers wanting more and already eagerly anticipating series 5.

Takeaway lesson from this episode: you can make anything less scary by popping a monocle and a fez on it.
