39 De Grey Street is a haunted hostel in Hull, which RICK HALE describes as having ‘non-stop paranormal action!’

39 De Grey Street

As a paranormal investigator, I’m not particularly fond of a relatively new concept called, “Pay to play paranormal.”

It’s the practice where people fork over money to investigate an alleged haunted location.  Some would argue that the money goes towards the upkeep of the location, which I’m fine with. My issue is that ghosts are not circus monkeys, they were people too.

Since I’m not here to tell you how to spend your money, there is one place I might consider paying a small fortune to investigate. A haunted house in Hull that delivers non-stop paranormal action. 39 De Grey Street in Hull has earned the well deserved reputation as a place of sheer terror.

Dubbed ‘the hostel’ by local ghost hunters, 39 De Grey Street has become associated with dark supernatural forces that do not mess around.  During its long and strange history several people have lived in the house and have reported several hair raising experiences. Experiences that have sent many fleeing in terror.

When Andy Yates, attempted putting the house up for rent he was contacted through Facebook by a former resident.  She explained that during her 24 years of residence, she was the victim of supernatural forces that stalked it’s halls and rooms.  She further claimed that one night as she slept she was pulled from her bed by cold unseen hands. When she tried to escape she was thrown against the bedroom wall.

Distraught by the experience, she contacted the local police who were sceptical of her story.  They even tried to convince her the violent episode was all in her head. That was until the spirit proved the officers wrong when it knocked a bookcase over.

The current owner has witnessed activity that could only be described as nightmarish. He has witnessed heavy furniture being thrown around the room and watched as household items flew through air guided by unseen hands.  One night he watched in horror as a badly bruised child walked out of the fireplace and floated around the room. With such dramatic activity it begs the question, why is 39 De Grey Street so haunted?

History of 39 De Grey Street

As far as the history of the house is concerned not much is known.  Over the years a number of psychics have visited attempting to unlock it’s many secrets. Most of the psychics agree that the house is filled with the spirits of abused children.  They have pointed out that the space under the stairs is haunted by one of these sad little spirits who was locked away in it’s darkness as punishment.

Miss Lockwood, a well known psychic visited Hull’s house of horrors and flatly stated the house was hell on Earth.  As she walked through the house she came into contact with three spirits, a small child, an evil entity and a drugged woman standing on the stairs.

As the investigation progressed, the spirits became more aggressive. Miss Lockwood was assaulted by the spirit of a man who barked and growled like a rabid dog.  The dogman rushed passed her almost knocking her to the ground. After that night, Miss Lockwood refused to return.
